Discover the beauty of nature with this stunning natural Hair Agate freeform. This hand-shaped specimen measures approximately 4.9 x 3.8 x 3.1 inches when standing on its flat base, and weighs approximately 1,242 grams (2.74 pounds). These gemstones' naturally semi-porous make-up means they display white spotting at the ends of the 'hairs' when dry - a dab of moisture brings back clarity for spectacular inspection. We included 2 images of the specimen, completely dry for months before photographing.

Hair Agate, a variety of chalcedony, is distinguished by its captivating inclusions of needle-like crystals, often referred to as "hairs" or "rutiles," though these inclusions can also be other minerals like goethite or actinolite. These slender, often golden, reddish-brown, or black filaments create striking patterns within the translucent to semi-translucent chalcedony base, which itself typically exhibits a waxy to vitreous luster. With a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, Hair Agate is relatively durable. Gemologically, the appeal lies in the contrast between the smooth, microcrystalline quartz and the visually dynamic and often contrasting color of the included acicular crystals, making each specimen uniquely attractive.
