This exquisite vintage ring features a stunning 25 mm x 12.5 mm Moss Agate cabochon bezel-set in a beautifully crafted Sterling Silver band. The green, black, and red wisps of color in the gemstone add a touch of mystery to the ring, making it a perfect statement piece for any jewelry collection. Stamped 'sterling' on the inside of the band, this size 7.5 ring weighs approximately 10.81 grams and has a Native American style to it, but we cannot attribute it to any specific Silversmith or Tribe. The top of the ring is 34.1 mm at its longest, tapering to 3.4 mm at the bottom of the band. The ring displays a dark patina typical of its age and has been cleaned but not polished.
Moss Agate, often called the "gardener's stone," is a mesmerizing variety of Chalcedony, a microcrystalline Quartz, known for its distinctive moss-like or dendritic inclusions. These intricate patterns, typically green but sometimes featuring red, brown, or black hues, are formed by inorganic mineral impurities like chlorite, hornblende, iron, or manganese oxides, not actual plant matter. Found globally, with notable sources in India, Brazil, and the United States (particularly Montana), Moss Agate typically exhibits a translucent to semi-translucent body with a vitreous luster and a hardness of 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale, making it suitable for various jewelry applications. Valued for its aesthetic connection to nature, it's believed to promote growth, balance, and a sense of grounding.
